Laura Jensen, who has served at Colorado State University since 2008 in several key roles – associate director then director of the Office of Institutional Research, and most recently associate provost of Institutional Research, Planning and Effectiveness – has been named Vice Provost for Planning and Effectiveness. In addition to finalizing the university’s Higher Learning Commission self-study as part of accreditation requirements, Jensen will oversee the next CSU strategic plan refresh.
Provost and Executive Vice President Rick Miranda says the decision to expand Jensen’s leadership role is part of a broader objective.
“Moving Dr. Jensen into this role will help the university consolidate all of its strategic planning, accreditation, and review processes, along with critical institutional research assets, under one portfolio,” said Miranda. “As Dr. Jensen turns her attention to the next revision of our University Strategic Plan, it will be more important for that activity to be led by someone who participates in Cabinet discussions and takes the benefit of the broadest perspective that a vice provost position provides.”
Jensen said she also looks forward to continuing her work on the university’s high-impact Student Success Initiatives, and considers it among the most rewarding work she has done at CSU. Jensen said the SSIs are intrinsically tied to CSU’s ability to fulfill its land grant mission, and student success requires an eye to inclusive excellence.
“Authentic access for any student with motivation and talent can only be accomplished when students see others like themselves succeed, when pedagogy highlights success in the disciplines from people of all backgrounds, and when inclusivity is felt in every space on campus,” said Jensen. “Furthermore, our research enterprise and engagement efforts can only have their intended global impact by continuing to focus on the needs of people from different backgrounds, beliefs, and perspectives.”
A conscientious and articulate leader
CSU’s Office of Institutional Research, Planning and Effectiveness provides leadership to campus regarding university performance, academic assessment and evaluation, student learning outcomes, accreditation, and strategic planning. Miranda said Jensen has proven to be an extremely effective, conscientious and articulate leader, and the university will benefit greatly with her in the new role of vice provost.
“Dr. Jensen has demonstrated excellent managerial and leadership skills over the past decade, turning the Office of Institutional Research into a critical partner for virtually all aspects of our institution,” said Miranda. “I’m delighted to have her contributing at this level, and look forward to her continued success as a member of our Cabinet and Council of Deans.”
