April 14-15: MISSion Innovation

MISSion Innovation is for young women in high school and college for 24 hours of creating, coding, collaboration, and innovation in support of sustainable cities and communities.

MISSion Innovation is a 24hr all-woman marathon, where students will work with a real client, the City of Fort Collins, CO. The Innovate Fort Collins Challenge is a competition that looks for the best proposals for projects that will help the city obtain its ambitious goal of zero carbon emissions by 2050. Teams participating in MISSion Innovation will use problem statements supporting the Climate Action Plan to create their own projects. Three top teams from MISSion Innovation will submit their projects to the Innovate Fort Collins Challenge, with a possibility of winning a grant to implement their idea in the city.

At MISSion Innovation, students will:

  • Create important tech that impacts their world.
  • Learn from grad students and young professional mentors.
  • Gain connections, how-to’s and insights from experts and inspired professionals.
  • Meet new friends and gain the know-how to succeed in any STEAM major or field.
  • Enjoy yoga, eclectic dance, music, meals, and more well-being activities.

More information about MISSion Innovation:

MISSion Innovation Is for the Broad Range of Students: those who are and are not in STEAM or STEM. Each participant will connect with mentors she/they can relate to and gain insight to benefit any major or career. No previous experience is no problem!

Students Will Gain Experience Relevant to Their World: Participants will meet other young women just like them and gain experience in real-world problem-solving in an environment where it is safe to learn, ask questions, prototype, experiment, fail forward, and fully collaborate. Program content segues with the value young women place on philanthropy, social good, relationships, environmental stewardship, and renewable energy.

By Students for Students: MISSion Innovation is planned and executed by young women. The program is a collaboration of the College of Natural Sciences at Colorado State University and Pretty Brainy, a qualified charitable 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to empower girls to gain STEAM.
