When and why do we choose to engage in honest conversations with others, sharing insight into who we are and how we view the world around us? Some people may be motivated by the desire to speak their minds and move on, a scenario where we talk past each other with little listening and little learning. Others may want to have a dialogue that builds understanding, even if not agreement. But a genuine dialogue requires a willingness to reflect on one’s own experiences and patterns of exchange, as well as a commitment to learn from and with others through meaningful conversation.
