Gender Bias, Sexism, and Stereotypes in STEM

Patricia Valoy is a Latina feminist and STEM activist. This presentation will discuss the challenges women and people of color face in entering STEM fields from a very early age by showcasing current statistics, and discussing gendered toys, stereotype threat, and cultural stigmas. The presenter will offer tools and techniques that educators, groups, and organizations can use to engage girls and minority groups in STEM education, and also discuss ways to respond and/or handle situations in hostile work-spaces.
