TRANS AWARENESS WEEK

TRANS AWARENESS WEEK| NOV 14-20, 2020

Trans Awareness Week, typically falling on the third week of November, is a week full of opportunities to connect with fellow members of the trans and nonbinary community, learn about trans experiences, and commemorate Trans Day of Remembrance.

ALL EVENTS ARE OPEN TO CSU STUDENTS, FACULTY, STAFF, ALUMNI & NON-CSU COMMUNITY MEMBERS, PARTICULARLY QUEER, TRANS & GENDER NON-CONFORMING FOLKS OF ALL AGES.

ALL WEEK | TRANS REMEMBRANCE ALTAR

In collaboration with El Centro, the Pride Resource Center will be hosting an altar to celebrate the lives of those lost to anti-trans violence this year. You can visit the altar outside of Lory Student Center Room 232 to contribute, view, and reflect on this year’s commemoration of Trans Day of Remembrance. Due to new updates related to COVID-19, Pride will be closed beginning Monday, Nov 16th and we are no longer able to distribute materials for TDOR.

SATURDAY, NOV 14 | NAME CHANGE WORKSHOP HOSTED BY COLORADO NAME CHANGE PROJECT | 3:00 – 4:30 PM

Colorado Name Change Project is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of transgender Coloradans by assisting them with their legal name change and gender marker corrections. They host monthly, virtual & free workshops open to folks interested in learning more about the process for adult name/gender marker changes in Colorado. To learn more & register visit their website here.

TUESDAY, NOV 17 | TRANS AWARENESS WEEK KEYNOTE SPEAKER: SCHUYLER BAILAR | 6 PM

Schuyler is the first trans athlete to compete in any sport on an NCAA DI men’s team, and the only to have competed for all four years. He is an internationally celebrated inspirational speaker and a respected advocate for inclusion, body positivity, and mental health awareness. You may recognize Schuyler through his Instagram handle @pinkmantaray. This program is hosted in collaboration with Ram Events and APACC. This will be formatted as a Zoom Meeting, meaning participants will be able to view other participants, can edit their name, and can have their video on or off.

We know for many trans and nonbinary young people, it can be hard to imagine what our futures may look like – so we want to give you a window into all the many possibilities! Join us for a panel Q&A discussion with trans & nonbinary faculty/staff members at CSU and community members as they answer questions from students about parenting, having a family, transitioning, navigating employment, and other topics as trans and gender non-conforming people.

Tune into our livestream as we celebrate the lives of those ended due to anti-trans violence this year & look ahead to a future that honors and protects trans lives. We will read the names of those lost, celebrate a Libation with staff from the Black/African American Cultural Center, and hold space for reflection.

 

MENTAL HEALTH RESOURCES 

Multicultural Counseling Hours 

Multicultural Counseling Drop-In Hours are reserved for students who identify as people of color, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and/or have a disability. Students will meet with Adam-Jon Aparicio (Licensed Professional Counselor) who serves as the Coordinator for Diversity and Outreach Services within Counseling Services, works closely as a liaison with Student Diversity Programs and Services, and serves as a primary contact for our undocumented student population via Dreamer’s United.

Students can come to Counseling Services and tell the front desk staff “I’d like to schedule a drop-in appointment with Adam-Jon.” Or “I’d like to schedule a multicultural counseling drop-in appointment.” Alternatively, they can schedule directly with Adam-Jon at aparicio@colostate.edu or 970-491-7494 . These appointments can be scheduled same-day or in advance.

All students can access the general drop-in hours offered at Counseling Services: Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays between 9:00 am – 3:30 pm, and Tuesdays between 10:00 am – 3:30 pm. Learn more about what to expect at Counseling Services. Students in need of mental health crisis intervention can also call Counseling Services at 970-491-6053 during open hours, or the 970-491-7111 in the evenings or on weekends.

Transgender & Gender Fluid Support Group 

Wednesdays | 3:30 pm – 5:30 pm

This group is a space for trans* and gender diverse students to gain more support and a sense of community related to gender identity. This group emphasizes group participation, mutual respect, and inclusivity. Facilitated by Beit Gorski & Chloe Wright

The group welcomes FTM and MTF spectrum individuals, genderqueer persons, intersex folks, and those questioning their gender identity. Screening is required. Screenings can be set up by contacting Beit Gorski at Beit.Gorski@colostate.edu or at 970-491-2244.
