Throughout her extensive business career, Vicki Saunders came to realize a stark reality: When it comes to business and entrepreneurship, women are often left on the sidelines.

So, the serial entrepreneur came up with a plan to change the game: Start a company that provides funding for women entrepreneurs to help their companies turn a profit and, in turn, change the world. The result is SheEO, a Canadian company founded in 2013 with a goal of raising $1 billion to provide a boost to hundreds of women-led companies.

Event set for March 21

Saunders will be the keynote speaker for Radical Generosity, a half-day symposium sponsored by Colorado State University Women & Philanthropy and University Advancement. The inaugural event is set for Wednesday, March 21, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Lory Student Center Ballroom.

“Women are influencing more philanthropic and financial decisions in our world, and we recognize women make remarkable impact at CSU,” said Marla Trumper, director of donor relations and stewardship for University Advancement. “Women & Philanthropy is a celebration of our women donors and a time to shine a light on the giving power of women – not just the gift of treasure, but also celebrating the time, talents and leadership voices of women.”

Impactful alumna to speak

In addition to Saunders’ address, the event will include panel discussions. Among the panelists is CSU alumna Zubaida Bai, who created a company called ayzh, which has sold more than 300,000 clean birth kits in developing countries. Bai’s company recently was awarded a $100,000 loan by SheEO.

The event is free and open to all, but preregistration is required. Lunch will be provided to attendees.
