She, Her, Hers

Deborah Yalen is an Associate Professor in the Department of History at Colorado State University. She regularly teaches the history of Imperial Russia and the Soviet Union, as well as the Holocaust in Historical Perspective and a transnational course in Modern Jewish History. Her scholarship explores the Jewish experience in the Soviet Union in the 1920s and 1930s, and she draws extensively on sources in Yiddish. Over the years, she has conducted research in archives in Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus, and her work has been supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities. She is currently completing a co-authored volume on the history of Jews in the Soviet Union in the 1930s for a multi-volume research project sponsored by New York University’s Global Network for Advanced Research in Jewish Studies. She serves on the education committee of the Advisory Council for Jewish Inclusion.
